Last week was one of those which helps you look back and see where God was at work protecting us~ even when at the time it may not have felt like it! Addisyn started spiking a fever last weekend and kept a temp of 104 all weekend. We had a night where I debated going into the ER, but we worked through it with the help of my nurse mother-in-law! On Monday I was able to take her into our pediatrician and after a long morning of her being catheterized, and her blood being drawn~ we found out she has a Urinary Tract Infection. She was given a shot of antibiotics and we went home. (I had to get a sub!) We made our follow up appointment for Wednesday much to my dismay(Wed. is a really crazy day with a morning meeting for me, but that was what worked out best for the Dr.) Then on Tuesday we went to the pharmacy to get her antibiotics for the week. At night I gave it to her~ questioning the directed dose, but not doing anything about it! She took it all, and went down for the night! (or so I thought!) She was up every half hour screaming the "ouchy" kind of cry each time. That went all the way till 7:30 a.m.!!! I didn't sweat it too much because we were going in for our follow up appointment at 9:30, so I skipped giving her the antibiotic and just took it along to give to her there. I got in the room and asked the nurse if I should force her to take it again , she said yes, so I began! (That is the picture or her with a crazy mess all over it!) The doctor came in right after and asked what happened. I said that she just hates taking this medicine and it is so much for her to take in at one time! She then asks how much? and I say 4 TEASPOONS! She grabs the bottle and runs to call poison control!! Yeah, don't worry right!!!NOT! What had happened~ was the dr. prescribed 4cc's (very very little amount) and the pharmacy prescribed 4 tsp.(very very large amount)!! No lie!! So I totally overdosed Addy 5 times the amount! I gave her 20cc's at a time!! Well, praise the Lord~ I went in on Wednesday instead of Friday~ because she was just at the limit of where she would have to be admitted and treated for an overdose!! We were able to treat her there and get things straightened out~ but how thankful I am for God's protection over my baby's body!! We will now for sure question all medication doses, and not have that happen again!! She is doing much better but her UTI is something that we will have to have monitored through out this first year because there could be more going on with all that then we know right now! Thanks for your prayers~ we sure appreciated them and felt them!! I personally have just reflected on a ton of the "little" things that showed me God's hand in this whole thing and for that I can truly say~ Yeah GOD!

Ruthanne!!! How scary!!! I remember when Morgan was in the hospital and even just recently with the whole weight thing...it does help us remember that God is there protecting us!! So glad that Addy is doing better!!! I'm also glad that nothing more serious took place!! AHHHH!!! So scary!!
oh my goodness -- poor addy and poor you too! i know how hard that can be on a mommy! we have been through the catheter thing (awful!) and having blood drawn...well, we've been there too! i always found comfort in the fact that, even though i remember those things so clearly, they don't...thank goodness! and then the medication thing....scary! so glad that you are on this side of it all and that addisyn is okay!
Ruthanne, thanks for getting back to me! I just asked someone for the "other catalog" so if I find something I like I will see what you can maybe do. I know youre super busy and after reading about your week...exausted!! Your daughter is beautiful!!!
Wow!! I can't even imagine what was going through your head as the Dr. ran to call posion control. What a blessing that everything turned out okay. What a great reminder of who is in control of every step of our lives!
